Niall Macalister Hall, owner of Torrisdale Castle Estate, Kintyre, winner of Best Holiday Accommodation category at HITA 2015

For an extremely fragile area like Kintyre, tourism is massively important. It is also the mainstay of our business overall, and the part that is showing the most growth.

The Highlands and Islands Tourism Awards have an important role to play in encouraging the enhancement of standards for visitors and rewarding the businesses and individuals who are striving for excellence.

We were delighted to receive the award for Best Holiday Accommodation 2015, and a little surprised given the quality of the other short-listed businesses.

The success has had a fantastic impact on the business and our employees. It has given everyone greater confidence that what we are doing is right.  It is rewarding and beneficial to advertise the fact that we won the award as it raises awareness of the business and helps in our drive to secure future bookings.

It is a great marketing tool, in that it provides additional accreditation of our facilities and provides potential customers with a quality assurance in which they can be confident.

The application process is also valuable in itself. It does make you really think about your business, what you have achieved, and what you have still to achieve.  It makes you look at it from an angle you perhaps haven’t looked from before.

So there are various reasons why businesses and individuals should enter this year’s HITA awards; the application process will identify strengths and weaknesses for you to work on, there are better marketing opportunities to explore; and there is the sense of achievement if you are a finalist or go on to win.

And if you do make the shortlist, there is always the bonus of a good night out.
