“’Tourism is everybody’s business’ a quote from leading tourism consultant Prof Terry Stevens, with whom I have worked with for a number of years.
How appropriate that World Tourism Day is taking place just a few days after The Highlands and Islands Tourism Awards Short Listed Finalists have been announced.
This group of tourist businesses have been judged, the best of the entries received and have been recognised as the shining stars of Highlands and Islands Tourism.
Tourism within the area is a major contributor to the economy of Scotland and is a major player in the rural economy of the country.
The Highlands and Islands of Scotland are one of the most sought after and popular destinations in the world and has been granted many accolades; one being recently from the Lonely Planet Guide.
We have great food and drink (much locally sourced), an amazing variety of accommodation from glamping to five star exclusive use. We have a culture and heritage to be proud of, from great music in pubs, local events and breath-taking castles to our own language and festivals. Some of the best local tour companies are here, along with brilliant tour guides and most importantly of all amazing, we have amazing scenery with great stories of myths and legends.
A country where they filmed Outlander, Harry Potter, and Braveheart to only name a few. That is a vacation itself; touring all the film locations.
We are also high on the agenda of adventure enthusiasts! We can offer the best hill walking, biking, marathons, enduro events, sailing, skiing, fishing and game sports.
A country where you can watch Highland Games, Shinty, Curling and other sporting activities you don’t get at home.
To celebrate World Tourism Day….. book that Highlands and Islands vacation and meet our shortlisted award winners. As you can see, we have it all!”
